First Quiz & Swing Dancing

It’s the Labor’s Day weekend and the first weekend in a while that I feel like a real weekend. I just finished two weeks of medical school and took my first quiz this morning. I have to admit, it was A LOT of intensive studying to the point where I felt like my undergraduate education was a vacation.

Then again, don’t freak out. Everybody is different when it comes to studying. How long should I study? Should I focus on this or that? What is the main point here? The answer is you. It is up to you. It really is. You get as much as you put into it. You study as much as YOU need too. Don’t get caught up by the guy sitting next to you boasting that he only need to study two hours per day. People gossip. Just block them out.

The truth is, professional school is a little bit different. You’ll soon realize that you will be motivated to do well because the education (that you paid for with huge loans!) will impact the rest of your life. So even if you’re a lazy bum now, when you are sitting in 1 of the 125 seats of future physicians, you will find the motivation to do well for yourself as well as for your patients. So the motto is, “Just do your thang!”

First Quiz
This morning was the first of the many quizzes throughout this semester. It was out of 40 computerized questions coming from 30 chapters in about four different books. Of course, I didn’t read all the chapters. I only read as a supplement because I physically cannot do it. There isn’t enough time. Actually, I heard of an M3 (third-year medical student) who only sleep two hours every night since he started medical school. He rocked his USMLE Step 1 by the way. So unless you’re an insomniac, something must give.

You must be curious about my score since I didn’t do all the assigned readings. I got a 37 out of 40, which is around 92-93%, and I am disappointed about it.

It should have been a 39 out of 40, there is only 1 question that I actually didn’t know. I did narrow the answer down to a 50-50 chance, but I chose the wrong one. So I admit defeat to that question. The other two questions were stupid mistakes. One of them, I completely misread the question. The other question asked about an obvious fact that I should know, but it somehow escaped my mind at the time. It is funny how you can remember all the difficult details but somehow forget the most obvious knowledge. I came home kicking myself in the foot for making those mistakes. Well, live and learn.

Swing Dance
Yes folks, I did swing dance today after the quiz with a few of my M1 classmates, and it was fun.. If you have never tried swing dance before, you really should try it. Honestly, I think guys look so sexy when they dance so smoothly. It was a good way to unwind. I’m glad I went.

Doctor’s “Bling Bling”
It was Christmas two days ago. I got my doctor’s goodies that I will need to use to examine patients (stethoscope etc…). Tomorrow, I am going to use it to examine my roommate’s dog, lol.

Well, until next time, keeping doing what you need to do.
Don’t get caught up with gossips.
Work hard because greatness is earned.

I Think I Can Do This

What sucks about living alone is not having someone to cook food for you. I really wish I have some sort of a robotic butler. It would really make my days easier.

I am not afraid of medical school (but don’t quote me on this since school hasn’t officially start yet) because I have an ego big enough to motivate me to stay on top. However what really gets me down is an empty stomach. I feel like it’s the end of the world and everybody is against me when I’m hungry.

This is going to be a long weekend.
